On December 27, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at a farm in Shikokhwe village, Malava, Kakamega County, where a six-month-old baby lost his life after being attacked by a broody hen.

The hen, which was protecting her chicks, attacked the baby while he was in his mother's arms. Robai Toboko, the baby's mother, recounted the incident, saying her son Hagai Bushuru was in good health but collapsed after the attack.

Efforts to resuscitate the baby were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead. The killer chicken was subsequently slaughtered, and its chicks were killed.

According to Toboko, her baby was trying to get hold of one of the hen's chicks when the attack occurred. She said her baby cried for a while before fainting.

There were no physical injuries on the baby's body, leaving the community in shock and mourning during the festive season.
