On the cusp of the 2022 General Election, a section of politicians from Western Kenya is making a bold claim: the Luhya community will produce the next President of Kenya.
Speaking at Buchenya grounds in Butere, Kakamega County, MPs Ayub Savula (Lugari) and Tindi Mwale (Butere) cited the recent census, which revealed the Luhyas as the majority in the country, as reason enough to start a 'grand march to State House.'
According to Savula, the Luhya nation boasts the highest number of people in Kenya, making it capable of delivering a win in the next election cycle.
“The recent census revealed that the Luhyas are the majority in the country, there is no reason we should not start a grand march to State House,” Savula said.
The Lugari legislator added that they are planning a major meeting with all the MPs from Western Kenya to work on a formula aimed towards clinching the top seat.
Those presently seen as forerunners for the top seat from the region include Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula as well as Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
