On December 27, 2019, a devastating plane crash occurred at Almaty International Airport in Kazakhstan, claiming the lives of at least 12 people and leaving several others injured.
The Fokker 100 aircraft, operated by Bek Air, was headed for the country's capital, Nur-Sultan, when it crashed shortly after departure.
According to the Kazakhstan's Civil Aviation Committee, the plane 'lost altitude during takeoff and broke through a concrete fence.'
A survivor described the terrifying scene, saying: 'The plane was flying with a tilt. Everything was like in a movie: screaming, shouting, people crying.'
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev pledged to provide assistance to the injured and vowed to punish those responsible 'in accordance with the law.'
As investigations into the crash continue, all Bek Air and Fokker 100 flights in Kazakhstan have been suspended pending the outcome.
