Published on December 27, 2019, KUPPET appears to have gained an upper hand in pay negotiations with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Teachers under KUPPET are currently benefiting from the career progression guidelines in the 2017-2021 collective bargaining agreement between the union and TSC.

With ongoing pay negotiations for a new CBA, KUPPET's benefits may grow further. The union has submitted proposals to TSC for the 2021-2025 CBA.

According to the proposal, KUPPET wants teachers in Grade C2, earning between Sh. 34,000 and Sh. 43,000, to receive a minimum salary of Sh. 59,425 and a maximum of Sh. 74,280.

The union also seeks pay increases for chief principals and senior principals, currently earning Sh. 118,242, to Sh. 153,715, and for those earning Sh. 141,891 to Sh. 184,458.

Additionally, KUPPET proposes commuter, leave, house, and town allowances, as well as hardship, overtime, and special allowances for its members.

Meanwhile, the TSC has dropped a controversial requirement for administrative positions, re-advertising 3,469 positions, including those of principals, headteachers, and deputy headteachers.
