Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his concerns about the packed Premier League fixture schedule over the Christmas and New Year period, echoing the sentiments of Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp.

United's final league match of 2019 against Burnley on Saturday comes just over 48 hours after their 4-1 comeback win over Newcastle, part of a grueling sequence of seven games in 21 days.

"I don't think it is fair on the boys at all," Solskjaer said. "I don't think it is fair to be expected to perform at the best of your level, both mentally and physically, 48 hours after you have played."

Despite the challenges, Solskjaer is optimistic about his team's chances against Burnley, citing their young age and the fact that they were able to recover during the second half of their match against Newcastle.

"You are a traditionalist country. You like your traditions. I can't see it being changed, no. But it should be," Solskjaer said when asked if English football might change its ways.
