Published on December 27, 2019, Kenyans abroad are eyeing public jobs in Kenya, with a plan to establish a skills database to solicit national and county government positions.

According to Shem Ochuodho, chairman of the Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA), 2,000 professionals have already uploaded their resumes, with the aim of increasing this number to 10,000 next year.

Speaking at the 2019 diaspora convention, Dr. Ochuodho emphasized the potential of diaspora Kenyans to contribute to the country's economy, citing the Sh300 billion sent home by Kenyans abroad in the last one year as the second-highest foreign income earner after tea.

He noted that Kenyans working in various sectors across the world have expressed their wish to return home to share their skills, and that the appointment of Mwende Mwinzi as Kenya's ambassador nominee to South Korea was a welcome gesture for the diaspora community.

The Kenya Diaspora Alliance is currently holding talks with various organizations, including the US-based Africa Diaspora Business Community, which has expressed interest in investing in solar farms, waste management, and agribusiness.
