On December 27, 2019, a Nation journalist, Dickens Wasonga, filed a report at Bondo Police Station alleging that a senior police officer, Sabina Kerubo, had threatened his life.
Ms. Kerubo, a chief inspector of police, was implicated in the murder of Star journalist Eric Oloo, who was found dead at her house in Ugunja, Siaya County.
According to Mr. Wasonga, Ms. Kerubo called him and accused him of damaging her reputation by failing to get her side of the story.
Ms. Kerubo allegedly said, “You should know that you have a wife and children and you will soon pay for whatever you did to me,” during a 2-minute and 52-second telephone conversation.
She also claimed that Mr. Wasonga had done a one-sided story and failed to consult her, which had cost her her job.
