Kisumu Residents Left Homeless After Heavy Rainfall Hits Lakeside Town

Heavy rainfall in Kisumu left a trail of destruction in the lakeside town, with residents calling on the national and county governments to address the perennial flooding.

Residents of Nyamasaria estate and the outskirts of Kisumu were left homeless after the heavy rainfall caused flash floods, submerging houses and major roads.

"We are asking the government, we are asking the county government and other well wishers to supply us with household items. Everything that we had has been swept away including chickens. We have no food. It's now about seven house and we are yet to see the governor," one resident lamented.

According to eyewitnesses, the rainfall began on the night of Wednesday, December 25, and pounded the region for over five hours, leaving houses and major roads submerged in flash floods.

Nyamasaria river also broke its banks, pouring much of its waters into the adjacent estates.
