December 27, 2019, marked a day of outrage on social media as Kenyans demanded answers from the Kenya Navy over their alleged refusal to rescue a group of fishermen who were stranded at sea for 17 days.

The fishermen, led by Captain Malik Mbwana, claimed that their boat drifted into the deep sea due to heavy winds, leaving them without food and water.

"At the ocean, we experienced heavy rainfall and we ran out of fuel, when we woke up we didn't know where we were," Mbwana stated.

Despite spotting Kenya Navy boats patrolling the area, the fishermen alleged that the officers refused to help them, leaving them to fend for themselves.

"On the ninth day we saw the navy, we called them to help us with food and water but they refused to help us and we were stuck at the deep sea," Mbwana added.

It wasn't until the 17th day that the fishermen were finally rescued and taken to Malindi sub-county hospital.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for heads to roll at the Kenya Navy.
