Sharon Otieno's Family Feels Abandoned by Politicians ¶
It's been over a year since the body of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno was found in a thicket near Oyugis, and the murder case is still dragging on in court.
While the public outrage and political drama surrounding her killing have dissipated, Sharon's family continues to bear the brunt of pain and grief.
On September 4, this year, the family commemorated the deaths in a low-key event, but it only attracted a handful of neighbours, friends, and relatives.
Sharon's parents, Mr. Douglas Otieno and Ms. Melida Auma, expressed their disappointment and frustration with the politicians who made promises to support them but have since forgotten.
'All we want is justice for Sharon and our grandson son,' Mr. Otieno told the Nation.
They pleaded with the Judiciary to speed up the case against the accused, saying that finding someone guilty would give them some closure and help them move on from their grief.
Sharon's killing happened during the Migori Senate seat by-election campaigns, and politicians like Raila Odinga used the murders as campaign ammunition against Governor Obado's group.
However, it seems that the politicians have moved on from the issue, and Sharon's family is left to deal with the aftermath of her murder alone.
Sharon's parents called on politicians and other leaders to honour their pledge in supporting her children and to push for justice in the case.
They expressed their gratitude to the media for their support in highlighting the case and bringing attention to their plight.
