On December 27, 2019, a significant earthquake occurred in Iran, with the US Geological Survey reporting a 5.1 magnitude quake at a depth of 38 kilometres.
The quake's epicentre was located 44 kilometres southeast of Borazjan city, and its proximity to the Bushehr nuclear power plant raised concerns.
According to the Iranian Seismological Center, the quake's strength was initially reported as 4.9 magnitude, although the US Geological Survey's assessment was higher at 5.1 magnitude.
Local authorities reported that the quake jolted villages near Kalameh city, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
"Based on assessments by the Red Crescent, and regional authorities, we're yet to hear of any damage," said Jahangir Dehghani, the head of the province's crisis centre.
"We might have roads blocked in parts of the mountain due to the quake's intensity," he added.
