On December 27, 2019, the Chinese government made a significant donation to the people of West Pokot, who were affected by devastating landslides and floods.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa delivered a cheque worth Sh10 million to Governor John Lonyangapuo, which will be used to purchase construction materials for housing units for the affected families.

The residents are currently living in makeshift camps in Nyarkulian, Paroo, and Parua, after being relocated there following the tragic floods that killed over 50 people last month.

According to Mr. Wamalwa, the government plans to start constructing new houses for the affected households from January, describing the donation as a 'Christmas gift from the Chinese government.'
