On December 26, 2019, a group of Wiper Democratic Movement leaders held a press conference in which they demanded that former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama exit the party if he could not obey its rules.

Party Secretary General Peter Mathuki led the call, stating that the party was considering using legal channels to discipline Muthama for his stance against party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kitui Senator Enock Wambua echoed Mathuki's sentiments, accusing Muthama of attempting to split the Kamba Nation.

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui also spoke at the press conference, urging the Kamba nation to disregard Muthama's sentiments, saying the region was united ahead of the 2022 elections.

The demand comes after Muthama accused Kalonzo of auctioning the Kamba nation to the highest bidder, a claim Kalonzo had previously made in a speech at his Yatta home on December 22, 2019, where he asked the Kamba nation to unite for any meaningful political stride.
