On Christmas Day, a devastating road crash occurred along the Nyahururu-Rumuruti road near Gatundia Trading Centre in Laikipia County, claiming the life of a young girl.
According to Laikipia West Deputy Sub County Police Commander Stephen Abani, the girl, aged between 12 and 15 years old, died instantly after the vehicle she was traveling in collided with a lorry.
The accident occurred when the 14-seater matatu, which was traveling from Rumuruti towards Nyahururu, stopped to pick a passenger and was then hit from behind by the lorry.
Abani confirmed that several people were injured in the crash and were taken to Nyahururu and Rumuruti hospitals for treatment.
Both vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Rumuruti Police Station for further investigations.
Abani warned drivers and other road users to exercise extreme caution while using the road to prevent similar accidents.
He also cautioned that reckless drivers would be arrested and charged in a court of law.
