On Thursday morning, a tragic incident occurred on the Eastern bypass near the General Service Unit (GSU) training school in Nairobi.

A police officer, Nickson Kiprono, 35, was crossing the road around 2am when he was hit by a vehicle, resulting in a fractured right leg and serious head injury.

Despite being rushed to Nairobi West Hospital, Officer Kiprono was pronounced dead on arrival.

Just a day earlier, another police officer, Simon Kamau, 37, took his own life by shooting himself dead with a G3 rifle at a police station in Kitale.

According to a police report, Officer Kamau had appeared disturbed the previous day and was counselled, but he still managed to access a colleague's rifle and commit the act.
