Published on December 26, 2019, Nairobi County Assembly members are at odds over the proposed impeachment of Governor Mike Sonko.

While some MCAs, particularly those from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, insist on securing permission from their party leaders before proceeding with the oustering process, others are pushing forward with the plan.

According to Nyayo Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi, the MCAs cannot make such a major move without the green light from their party leaders.

"We cannot make such a major move if we have not been given the green light by our party leaders," Oyugi said.

However, Jubilee majority leader Millicent Mugadi claims that Governor Sonko has not approached them to try to prevent the impeachment motion.

As the Nairobi County Assembly grapples with the issue, a critical analysis of the developments indicates that the ODM MCAs have been in the forefront to remove Sonko from the office, but some ODM members have joined the Jubilee counterparts to defend the besieged Governor.
