On December 23, 2019, a peculiar bank robbery took place in Colorado Springs, leaving authorities and witnesses alike in a state of confusion.

A white-bearded man, later identified as 65-year-old David Wayne Oliver, robbed the Academy Bank after threatening workers with an unidentified weapon.

However, in a bizarre twist, Oliver threw the stolen cash into the air and wished passers-by a merry Christmas, as witnessed by Dion Pascale, who spoke to local station KKTV 11 News.

"He started throwing money out of the bag and then said, ‘Merry Christmas!’" Pascale recalled.

Oliver was subsequently arrested at a nearby Starbucks without incident, and officers confirmed that there was no indication that he was armed at the time of his arrest.

Despite the good Samaritan efforts of passers-by who attempted to return some of the stolen money to the bank, thousands of dollars remain missing, according to the Denver Post.
