On December 19, 2019, police responded to a 911 call from a house in the US, where they found a tragic scene.
Eighty-five-year-old Beverly Jenne had shot and killed 27-year-old Janet Oyuga, a Kenyan national, and seriously injured her sister, Angela Oyuga.
According to investigators, Beverly had lived in the house since 1979 but was evicted after the house was foreclosed and sold in November 2019.
The new owner allowed Beverly to stay in the house temporarily, and the Oyuga sisters, who had bought the house at an auction, allowed her to remain until she found a new place to live.
However, Beverly had other plans. Police believe she killed Janet and then lay in wait for Angela, shooting her in the back as soon as she arrived home from work.
Beverly then attempted to take her own life, leaving a suicide note in her car that read, 'I think she was getting ready to evict me, and I'm 85 and have no place to go.'
As the community mourns the loss of Janet Oyuga, the family is raising funds to send her body back to Kenya for burial.
