Nairobi County Executive Committee member for Environment, Energy, Water and Sanitation Veska Kangogo has called on Kenyans to pray for Governor Mike Sonko as he navigates a challenging period in his life.
On December 26, 2019, Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti issued a court order barring Sonko from accessing his office until the case against him is heard and determined.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the fate of the county government, Kangogo dismissed claims that the county's services have been disrupted following Sonko's arrest.
“Let’s pray for Sonko because he is not in a good position and he is also facing a judicial process. We hope that he will overcome the trial he is facing,” she echoed.
According to the charges against him, Sonko is accused of conspiring with rogue business people and senior County officials to misappropriate more than 380 million from the county coffers.
He was granted a Sh15 million cash bail by the High Court sitting in Nairobi two weeks ago and is currently out on bond.
