On Tuesday night, a devastating road accident occurred at Nyamaiya, a notorious 'black spot' along the Nyamira-Miruka road, claiming the lives of two sisters and leaving another injured.
The accident happened at 8:30 pm when a speeding motorcycle, carrying two passengers, swerved from its lane and collided with a stationary truck carrying sand that had broken down due to a mechanical fault.
The victims, who were sisters, were returning home from Christmas shopping in Nyamira town. One of them died instantly, while the other succumbed to her injuries at the Nyamira County Referral Hospital.
The motorcycle rider, who sustained rib and head injuries, is still recovering at the hospital.
Nyamira South Police Commander Lillies Wachira confirmed the incident and urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution while using roads during the festive season.
