Kikuyu Elders Condemn DP Ruto's Traditional Attire at Political Event ¶
On December 25, 2019, a group of Kikuyu elders led by Kimani Ngunjiri visited Deputy President William Ruto at his Sugoi home in a bid to mend fences.
However, the visit has been met with criticism from another group of Kikuyu elders under the 'Kiama Kia Maa' umbrella, who have condemned DP Ruto's decision to wear traditional attire at the event.
'Wanasiasa wamefikia kiwango cha kubadili mila zetu na fedha,' said Ndung'u Wa Gaithuma, the chairman of the 'Kiama Kia Maa' group.
Another elder, Kogochi Waimeri, added that the traditional attire worn by DP Ruto was special and not meant to be worn by anyone at any time.
The group of elders has since called on all politicians involved in the incident to seek forgiveness from the Kikuyu community.
Kimani Ngunjiri, the leader of the group of elders, has been criticized for leading the delegation to visit DP Ruto at his home.
According to Ngunjiri, the region has been peaceful since DP Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta formed a political alliance in 2012.
