December 25, 2019 - In a pioneering move, Kenya is set to host its first Carbon Neutral Festival in Africa, during this year’s Kilifi Festival in Kilifi County.
The Kilifi Festival, now in its fourth year, has announced that the multicultural event will be carbon-offset for the very first time, thanks to partnerships with Finnish company Neste and Kenyan-based company Wildlife Works.
By using Neste renewable diesel to generate power, the event aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of up to 90% compared to traditional diesel fuel.
‘Kilifi New Year offsetting its emissions with Wildlife Works contributes towards the protection of dryland forest, the conservation of Wildlife, community empowerment, and the creation of jobs in multiple sustainable industries,’ says Kilifi Festival Marketing Manager Melisa Kayanda.
The festival will run from December 30th to January 2nd 2020 with over 50 artists expected to grace three stages, featuring international acts like Osunlade (US), Afshin (FR), Seth Schwarz (DE), Kampire (UG), Faizal Mostrixx (UG), and Electic Shamba (UK), alongside local headliners Blinky Bill, Karun, Barak Jacuzzi, Vallerie Muthoni Ochungulo Family, and more.
Tickets are available on sale online until December 27th and thereafter, they will be available at the venue door.
