On December 8, 2019, eight fishermen set out to sea from Ziwayu in Kilifi County, but their boat was wrecked by heavy waves, forcing them to jump ship and swim for their lives.
Miraculously, the men were found alive in the open sea by other fishermen after 18 days, having survived on a meager 58 kilograms of lobster and fish that was their catch on the day their boat capsized.
According to Yunnus Aboud, Chairman of the Fishermen Association of Malindi, the men were rushed to the Malindi Sub-County hospital, where they are currently receiving specialized treatment.
