On December 23, 2019, a bizarre bank robbery took place in Colorado Springs, leaving authorities and witnesses stunned.

A 65-year-old man, later identified as David Wayne Oliver, walked into the Academy Bank, threatened workers with an unidentified weapon, and made off with an unknown amount of money.

However, in a shocking twist, Oliver began throwing the stolen cash out of the bag and wished passers-by a merry Christmas, according to witness Dion Pascale, who spoke to local station KKTV 11 News.

"He started throwing money out of the bag and then said, 'Merry Christmas!" Pascale recalled.

Oliver was subsequently arrested at a nearby Starbucks without incident, and police confirmed that there was no indication that he was armed at the time of his arrest.

Despite the good Samaritan efforts of passers-by who attempted to return some of the stolen money to the bank, thousands of dollars remain missing, according to the Denver Post.
