On the Southern Bypass in Lang'ata, Nairobi, a tragic accident occurred in the morning, claiming the lives of two people.
According to Lang'ata sub-county Commander Gregory Mutiso, the victims may have been speeding when they collided with a stalled truck.
However, residents at the scene suggested that the two may have been under the influence of alcohol.
The bodies were transported to the City Mortuary for further examination.
As the country grapples with a surge in road accidents, this incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers on our roads.
According to a report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in July, this year is shaping up to be the worst for road users, with a significant increase in accidents expected.
Statistics from the NTSA and the Kenya Police Service reveal that over 3,000 people have lost their lives in road accidents this year alone.
Inspector-General Hillary Mutyambai has warned against speeding, stating that stern action will be taken against reckless drivers.
He emphasized that overloading and speeding of private and Public Service Vehicles will not be tolerated.
