Kenya's national women beach volleyball team is gearing up for the Africa Zone Five zonal championships in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from January 9-12, 2020. The team, which won a silver medal at the Africa Beach Games in Cape Verde, is confident of securing a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

According to coach Sammy Mulinge, the team will enter two women's teams, with Gaudencia Makokha and Prexedes Agala forming team A, while Foscar Kasisi and Loice Chepkosgei will marshal forces in team B.

"We are ready to claim the top two slots to qualify for the second round to be held in March next year," said Mulinge.

Kenya will be competing against Egypt, Nigeria, Botswana, and host Cameroon for the sole ticket to the Tokyo Olympic Games. The championships will be played on a round-robin basis.

Coach Mulinge, who was recently nominated as a Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) beach instructor, expressed gratitude to African beach volleyball President Amr Elwani for the nomination.

"Due to his good performance in the initial course, he was selected to be part of an elite group of 17 coaches that proceeded to the 18-month training program, which they completed," said Elwani in his letter.
