Kenya's KCB women's volleyball team is gearing up for the 2020 season with a new technical director at the helm. Paul Bitok, a former KCB player and coach, has been appointed as the club's technical director, a move that is expected to boost the team's performance in the upcoming season.
Bitok, who has a 10-year stint in Rwanda under his belt, returns to KCB with a wealth of experience. He will be working alongside Japheth Munala, the first assistant coach, and Josp Barasa of Kenya Prisons, who serves as the second assistant coach.
According to Judith Odhiambo, the KCB Group Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs and the club's patron, the team is optimistic about their chances in the new season. 'We had an excellent run in 2019, and we believe the new line-up sets us up for greater performance in 2020 and beyond,' she said.
The team is looking to improve their performance in the African Clubs Championship, where they finished a distant ninth in Egypt this year. Bitok has welcomed the move, stating that his goal is to professionalise the club and match up to North African clubs like Zamalek or Al Ahly SC.
Bitok's vision is to have players train full-time and challenge other clubs to follow suit. The team has already started this journey with a recent signing spree, which includes youngsters Sandui Chepkemoi and Emmaculate Masoki from Kwanthanze Secondary School.
With a new technical director at the helm, KCB is looking to finish among the top three in the Clubs Championship and challenge for the local title in the next season.
