Published on December 25, 2019, Kisii County has been pounded by heavy rains for over a month, displacing more than 3,000 people.
According to Kisii County Executive Committee Member Walter Okibo, the affected families are currently camping in schools, with those in Chitago Borabu Ward at Nyasasa and Nyandiera primary schools, and those in Nyabworoba Sub-Location of Sensi Ward at Nyabworoba primary and secondary schools.
Okibo noted that women and children are the most affected by the floods, and the County Government, in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society, has taken relief aid to some families in Chitago Borabu Ward.
He appealed to the affected people in Sensi Ward not to return to their homes until a permanent solution is found, as part of the county's efforts to address the situation.
As part of the county's Christmas celebrations, Governor James Ongwae will share food and non-food items to the less fortunate, including those affected by the landslide and the floods.
