As the new year (2020) begins, Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua has issued a stern warning to female police officers regarding their dress code.

During his recent countrywide tour, Mbugua observed that many police officers, including seniors, were not adhering to the service dress code, particularly when it came to hairstyles while in uniform.

He pointed out instances where female officers had complicated hairstyles that made it difficult for them to wear official caps, and also noted the prevalence of exaggerated hair weaves and styles, as well as overcoloured hair.

“During my official tour around the country the last week, I observed with a lot of concern that officers of all ranks have flawed the service dress code especially women hairstyles while in uniform,” Mbugua said.

He emphasized that the police uniform is a sign of authority and should be accorded the respect it deserves, and warned that the styles he observed would not be condoned as of January 1, 2020.

According to Mbugua, all senior police officers have been charged to ensure that modest appearance is observed by everyone in the service.
