Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has raised concerns over President Uhuru Kenyatta's drinking habit, which he claims has become excessive since the handshake deal with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
According to Kuria, Uhuru's drinking habit has affected his ability to chair cabinet meetings and consult with his deputy on important matters.
Uhuru's last cabinet meeting was held on December 19, 2019, where it was agreed to rename Moi Day to Huduma Day and celebrate it on October 10, and Boxing Day to Utamaduni Day.
However, netizens have questioned the urgency of renaming national holidays when Kenyans are facing more pressing issues like unemployment and disasters.
Leaders from the Tangatanga movement, associated with Deputy President William Ruto, have also taken issue with Uhuru's habit of appearing in national functions not sober.
They claim that this has led to outbursts and fits of anger, which are often misinterpreted as cracks in the relationship between Uhuru and Ruto.
One such incident occurred at the Akorino annual conference at Kasarani stadium, where Uhuru appeared visibly drunk and strongly criticized the Tanga Tanga team.
Similar incidents have played out at other national functions, including the Bomas of Kenya during the BBI report unveiling.
