On a recent meeting with Cabinet Secretaries, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a stern directive: all Cabinet Secretaries and their Principle Secretaries are not to close for the holiday until all pending bills are paid.

According to a press release by acting CS Ukur Yatani, the payments for goods and services procured by the National Government and County Government have severely impacted the financial positions of the economy, affecting the general economy of Kenya.

CS Yatani further emphasized in a recent interview with Citizen TV that the actions of Government departments and counties towards Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are unfair and have led to the closure of some companies.

"It's unfair that after a contractor finishes their work, you stay with money…we are getting reports that some of these people owed by the government are stressed to the extent where they take their own lives," CS Yatani said during the interview.
