On December 24, 2019, Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) made history by emerging second in a competition for a high-end forensic software organized by Sumuri, an American software company.
The competition, which drew intense voting from five security agencies, including four police units from the United States, was won by the Henry County Police.
However, in a surprise move, Sumuri's Chief Executive Officer, Jason Roslewicz, announced that the company would gift the DCI a TALINO workstation, citing the overwhelming support the Kenyan agency received during the voting campaign.
"This year we were blown away by the number of votes we received – almost 700,000. I thank everyone who voted & am truly humbled to announce the winner of a very hard fought battle," Roslewicz said.
"Your country's effort in coming together for this campaign made it an even more humbling experience. Congratulations to our SUMURI Gives Back Runner Up – DIGITAL FORENSICS UNIT, KENYA! You too will receive a TALINO workstation to help your team save more lives," he added.
The DCI expressed gratitude to the Kenyan public for their support, congratulating the Henry County Police Department on their win.
"Thank you everyone for your support," said the DCI, adding "When we come together for a good cause, great things do happen."
