On December 16, 2019, Justice Otieno Odek was found dead at his home in Milimani, Kisumu town, after failing to return calls.
According to Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, an autopsy conducted on Justice Odek's body revealed that he died from a clot on the vein in his right leg.
The clot, known as pulmonary thromboembolism, choked the heart and caused his sudden death, Oduor explained to the media on Tuesday.
Justice Odek was expected to join his colleagues, Justices Patrick Kiage and Milton Makhandia, for a chamber hearing in Kisumu, where they were set to deliver a ruling on an appeal case filed to challenge the decision of the lower court on the closure of Kibos Sugar and Allied Industries over pollution.
He was also listed as a prosecution witness against lawyer Tom Ojienda in the Mumias Sugar graft case.
