Published on December 24, 2019, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has suspended all works at the Witeithie site on Thika Superhighway in response to public uproar over traffic gridlock in the area.
According to KeNHA, despite the heavy traffic snarl up witnessed in the past two days, traffic continues to flow normally. The authority attributed the traffic congestion to a hiccup experienced by the contractor when hoisting the superstructure for the pedestrian footbridge on Monday night.
KeNHA has instructed the contractor to resume works at the site on December 27 and December 28, 2019, with the condition that traffic flow will only be diverted within the notified timelines between 11pm and 4am.
