December 24, 2019 - Boeing has appointed David Calhoun as its new CEO, effective January 13, 2020, in a bid to stabilize the company following the crisis surrounding the Boeing 737 Max.
Calhoun, a former Board Chairman, takes over from Dennis Muilenburg, who resigned following the crisis. Calhoun has expressed his commitment to transparent communication and the return of the suspended aircraft.
“I strongly believe in the future of Boeing and the 737 MAX. I am honoured to lead this great company and the 150,000 dedicated employees who are working hard to create the future of aviation,” said Calhoun.
The appointment is aimed at reassuring stakeholders and restoring confidence in the company. Boeing has been working to repair relationships with regulators, customers, and other stakeholders, and has committed to full transparency, including effective and proactive communication.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had grounded the Boeing 737 Max pending further investigation after two crashes, which claimed 346 lives. Other countries, including the UK, Nigeria, China, India, and Australia, had also suspended the aircraft from their airspace.
