On Sunday, Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement, met with a section of Ukambani leaders at his Yatta home in Machakos to address brewing tensions in the region.

During the meeting, Kalonzo emphasized the importance of unity among leaders in the Kenyan political arena, stating that it is crucial for progress.

He reiterated his support for President Uhuru Kenyatta and the BBI report, saying it will shape the future of Ukambani politics.

“I have made a resolution that I and the Kamba community are not flip-flopping and where Uhuru will be even after 2022, we will be there,” Kalonzo said.

He also expressed his commitment to supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta, stating that his support has not changed.

Notably absent from the meeting were Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), who have challenged Kalonzo for Ukambani political supremacy.

Kalonzo attributed Governor Mutua's absence to security concerns, while Kibwana and Ngilu did not send their apologies.

Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua expressed optimism that Kalonzo will still be a presidential candidate in 2022 and will be a force to reckon with.

He also ruled out the possibility of Kalonzo forging an alliance with Raila Odinga.
