On Tuesday morning, a major gridlock was experienced on the Thika Superhighway in Nairobi, prompting the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to suspend construction works at Witeithie.
According to a statement from KeNHA, the construction will resume on Friday this week.
The authority had instructed the contractor to divert traffic flow only between 11pm and 4am, but the contractor experienced a hiccup when hoisting the superstructure for the pedestrian footbridge, causing a massive jam.
Motorists plying the Thika Superhighway on a Christmas rush were stranded as KeNHA installed a footbridge at the said area.
