On December 24, 2019, the cause of death of Justice James Otieno Odek was revealed to be a blood clot in his right leg that caused blockage in one of his arteries.
According to the Chief Government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted a three-hour autopsy at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, the clot was the primary cause of death.
Justice Odek was found dead in his serviced apartment house in Kisumu on December 23, 2019.
Although detectives found three sex-enhancing tablets inside the house, Oduor ruled out their involvement in the judge's death.
Initially, the postmortem had been delayed after the family requested more time to decide where the exercise would be conducted.
Justice Odek's body was set to be airlifted to Nairobi but was returned to Kisumu's Aga Khan Hospital mortuary on Monday.
His elder brother, Yonah Odek, has said burial arrangements are ongoing, with the judge's remains set to be buried this weekend at his rural home in Asembo, Siaya County.
