On December 24, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto emphasized the need for inclusivity in constitutional changes, stating that the decision should be made by all Kenyans, not just a select few.

Speaking in Vihiga County during the Mumboha Hustlers Cup, Luanda, Ruto called for citizens from all walks of life to take charge and decide the best system of governance to adopt.

He noted that an all-inclusive approach to the debate would reveal which between the parliamentary and presidential system of governance is suitable for the country.

However, Ruto emphasized that the final decision on any constitutional change should rest with the people.

Meanwhile, a section of political leaders has questioned the rationale behind extending the term of the Building Bridges Initiative taskforce after the expiry of its mandate.

Leaders from Western Kenya, led by Tongaren Member of Parliament Eseli Simiyu, have lamented the decision, saying the BBI report should have been left in the hands of technical experts before a final report that is agreeable to all is drafted.

They called on their colleagues in leadership to stop injecting politics into the matter and instead concentrate on nation-building agenda.
