On December 24, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko received the World Peace Messenger award from the World Peace and Diplomacy Organization in Los Angeles, USA.

The award, given to Sonko for his efforts in reaching out to the poor and reforming youths associated with criminal groups, has raised eyebrows given his ongoing corruption charges.

According to reports, Sonko was awarded for his commitment to humanitarian initiatives, including his work with youths and the needy.

While receiving the award, Sonko expressed pride in his achievements, particularly in his efforts to reform criminal youth gangs and help them become better citizens.

He promised to continue his humanitarian activities and the campaign to rehabilitate youths from the street life.

“I am so humbled and gratified to have been recognized at such a high level but this can only make me proud of the bold steps I have made in my life,” Sonko said.
