On Monday evening, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) imposed a travel ban on Chania Genesis company following a bus accident that left six people seriously injured on Sunday morning.
The accident occurred when a Chania Genesis bus hit a truck at Manga along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
On Tuesday morning, over 180 passengers who were traveling to Mombasa were left stranded at Makindu and Emali police stations after police officers impounded four buses belonging to Chania Genesis company.
According to Makueni County Police Commander Joseph ole Napeiyan, the drivers will be charged for violating the ban.
Speaking to the Nation, the stranded passengers said they were not aware of the NTSA ban by the time they boarded the buses.
They appealed for a refund of their fares, citing that they were cash-strapped and the interruption of their trips had greatly inconvenienced them.
Traffic police officers impounded the four buses and directed them to Emali and Makindu police stations, arresting the drivers in the process.
