On December 24, 2019, the long-awaited Mama Ngina Waterfront Park in Mombasa County finally opened its doors to the public for use during this festive season.

Located in the coastal city, the park is a major tourist attraction and a source of pride for the people of Mombasa. The opening of the park comes at an opportune time as holidaymakers continue to throng the city.

Hotels in the area are enjoying full bookings despite the economic crunch being experienced. Residents of Mombasa and other holidaymakers from the rest of the country are now enjoying the cool sea breeze and relaxed atmosphere at the refurbished park.

Vendors are optimistic that business will thrive this festive season as Kenyans throng the water park to sample what it has to offer.

Hoteliers in the North Coast have decorated their premises and made guests feel at home away from home. However, they have hinted at a slight drop in bookings compared to last year, attributing the situation to the hard economic times Kenyans are facing.

Despite this, hoteliers have lined up an array of activities, laid out elaborate menus, and luxuriously furnished rooms for guests. They are urging the government to increase the number of wagons and trips to and from Nairobi to cater to the growing number of holidaymakers.

Chartered flights and the introduction of direct flights from Entebbe to Mombasa have also come in handy this festive season.
