On December 24, 2019, a devastating motorbike accident occurred on the Gakoigo-Njegas road in Kirinyaga Central, claiming the lives of two students.
According to eyewitnesses, the motorbike collided with a Landcruiser, resulting in the instant deaths of the two students, one of whom was a form three student and the other was sitting for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) that year.
Kirinyaga Central OCPD Doreen Oduor stated that the students were speeding when they lost control and collided with the Landcruiser on the busy road.
Police boss Oduor urged parents to exercise caution and take care of their children during the festive season, adding that the students may have taken the motorcycle from their relatives as they were still in school.
The bodies of the deceased students have been transferred to the Kerugoya Level Four Hospital mortuary.
