As the festive season approaches, Kenyans are bracing themselves for the usual traffic congestion on major highways. To mitigate this, the National Police Service (NPS) has put up enhanced measures to monitor traffic situation across the country.

One of the key measures is the deployment of police choppers, which will be patrolling the country and providing air support to officers on the ground. This will help in monitoring the traffic situation along major highways for prompt intervention.

According to the NPS, the police choppers will be standing on guard this festive season, giving air support to officers on the ground and helping to monitor the traffic situation along major highways for prompt intervention where needed.

"Standing on guard this festive season is our National Police Service Airwing: it will be patrolling the country giving air support to our officers on the ground. The unit will help in monitoring the traffic situation along our major highways for prompt intervention where needed," said NPS via tweet on December 23, 2019.

Meanwhile, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Director-General Peter Mundinia has warned of a serious gridlock on Nairobi-Nakuru roads due to the massive movement of travelers during the festive season. He advised motorists to use alternative routes, including flyover-Njambini-Engineer-Olkalou-Lanet or Naivasha-Engineer-Olkalou-Lanet.

Additionally, motorists and commuters were left stranded on Thika Superhighway on Monday following a crackdown by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials and traffic police officers. More than 50 unroadworthy vehicles were impounded, causing a massive traffic snarl up.
