On December 24, 2019, a senseless tragedy unfolded in Seattle, United States, claiming the life of a young Kenyan woman.
Janet 'Jay' Oyuga, a resident of Seattle, was hosting an elderly woman at her home, which she had recently purchased with her sister, Angela.
However, in a shocking turn of events, the elderly woman turned on her hosts and shot Janet dead at the scene.
Angela, who had just finished her late shift, was shot in the back as she walked up the stairs, but miraculously survived and is recuperating at Harborview Hospital in Seattle.
The motive behind the heinous act is still unclear, but it is alleged that the elderly woman had been living with the sisters out of respect and kindness.
The Kenyan community in the US has come together to support the family of the deceased in planning her funeral.
"We as a community full of love should assist this family so that we can accord Jay a warm send off," a post from the Kenyan community in the US reads.
