On December 24, 2019, Gor Mahia's CEO Lordvick Aduda addressed concerns over coach Steven Polack's future, stating that the coach would return to the club on December 30 as expected.

Polack had left Kenya on December 22 to spend Christmas with his family in England, but his departure sparked rumors that he might not return to the club. However, Aduda assured the club's fans that Polack still had a two-year contract with Gor Mahia and would be back on schedule.

“Polack will certainly be back and we are not worried about that. Why should it be an issue when the coach leaves to join his family for Christmas? He has a contract with us and unless he tells us otherwise, he is still our coach and we expect him back on Monday,” Aduda said.

Before leaving, Polack had overseen the team's 3-0 win over Kisumu All Stars in a Kenyan Premier League match, securing Gor Mahia's position at the top of the standings with three matches in hand.

Polack had also announced that his assistant Patrick Odhiambo would take charge of the team's league match against Posta Rangers on December 29, further fueling concerns over his potential departure.
