December 24, 2019, marked a typical night in Nairobi's CBD, where a group of street urchins had taken up positions along Duruma Road.

As the night wore on, a woman known as Daz, posing as a commercial sex worker, began distributing a substance to the urchins, who would later smoke it using small pipes.

Our fixer revealed that the police rarely conduct patrols on the street, allowing the illicit activities to thrive.

As we observed, another well-dressed man arrived and purchased the substance from Daz, further highlighting the brazen nature of the operation.

Despite the presence of commercial sex workers, the street is surprisingly considered one of the safest in downtown Nairobi, with residents attributing this to the lack of police presence.

Commercial sex workers, like Keziah, expressed a willingness to conduct their business in various locations, as long as they receive payment, and even revealed that street urchins occasionally patronize their services.
