On December 24, 2019, Tesco took swift action to address a disturbing discovery. A customer had found a message inside a Christmas card produced by a Chinese supplier, stating that it had been packed by foreign prisoners who were victims of forced labour.

Tesco immediately suspended the factory where these cards were produced and launched an investigation. The company also withdrew the cards from sale while the investigation was ongoing.

According to a Tesco spokesman, the company 'abhors the use of prison labour and would never allow it in our supply chain.'

As the investigation continues, Tesco remains committed to ensuring that its supply chain is free from forced labour and other forms of exploitation.
