Naivas Supermarket has marked its presence in Nakuru town with a new branch, taking over the space vacated by Nakumatt Holdings, which is shutting down most of its remaining outlets.

On December 21, 2019, the new branch opened at Nakuru West Side mall, expanding Naivas' retail network to 60.

The new branch directly employs about 130 employees, including those inherited from Nakumatt and a number of merchandisers.

Naivas now has three branches in Nakuru, raising competition in the town where its other major rival Tuskys also runs three outlets.

Naivas' chief commercial officer, Willy Kimani, said the company's founder, Peter Mukuha Kago, had wanted to have a branch in this part of the town. 'I am happy today his wishes to have a branch at the same venue have been fulfilled posthumously,' Kimani said.
