Deputy President William Ruto has expressed his support for the Bridging Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, but with a condition. Speaking in Luanda, Vihiga County, on Monday, the DP said he would only support the report if it is passed by the public and not by a handful of people in a boardroom.

According to the DP, he would be okay with any system of governance that the public decides on once the report goes to a referendum. "If they want parliamentary system, presidential system or whatever name it will be called, so long as the people decide, it is fine," he said.

DP Ruto's statement comes after he previously called for the fast-tracking of the report, saying it would allow people to concentrate on developing the country. The BBI report, a product of the handshake between Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been touted as the system that will solve among other pitfalls, chaos after a general election.
